Repairing A Rotted Eave
It was clear when I showed up to the jobsite and met with the
homeowner that his problem was more than rotted out fascia board and soffit. After removing the
fascia, it was obvious one of the rafters was completely rotten and needed replacing. Using a jig saw to remove the damaged portion of soffit sheathing, the extent of the damage
was extensive. As the repair proceded, the rafter was replaced, as well as the damaged sheathing and fascia board. New
molding was also cut and used in the repair. The chimney flashing was also checked as well as the roof decking. It was no surprise that the decking around the
chimney was also in bad shape. Strictly as a temporary measure to seal the chimney from further water damage, the area was sealed with asphalt sealant.
The area was caulked, primed, and repainted to finish the job. The homeowner informed me he would begin makeing arrangements for the construction of a new roof.
